Year 4 Blog
During Term 3 and 4 children will be learning about the Roman Empire and their way of life. Children will explore Roman inventions, clothing, leisure activities as well as the invasion of Britain and expansion of the Roman Empire. Children can find lots of interesting information and video clips on the BBC Bitesize website. Children will also have the chance to visit the Roman museum in Canterbury where they will look at Roman artefacts, original roman roads and dress in authentic armour.
As children begin to learn new mathematical concepts, knowledge of times table facts is essential. We do daily practice in class but any additional practice that can be done at home will benefit greatly. Children must know all 12 times tables off by heart. We will also be focusing on spelling this term, each child has a spelling book that they should bring home to practise spellings for the week. A year 4 spelling list has been sent home, please contact one of the class teachers if you would like another one.
Please remind your child to bring their reading book into school every day. They should read every night, and please record what they have read in their reading record books. More confident readers can read to themselves. Remember Wednesday is Buster Book Club, where children can earn class rewards by reading for at least 20 minutes. The Buster Book Club bookmark must be signed by a parent/guardian for the minutes to be counted.
